Posting Items to Facebook

There are multiple ways to post products from your CommentSold inventory for sale on Facebook.

Sell products from static posts on your Facebook Page or Groups in just a few steps! Connecting Facebook to CommentSold allows for automated invoicing and inventory management.

Before you can begin selling on Facebook, you will need to connect your Facebook page and group(s) to CommentSold. If you have not yet done this, read our tutorial here!

Note: If you have fewer than 20K members in your group, we recommend that you create your posts in your Facebook group and follow the steps for autolinking or manual linking. We have found Facebook to discriminate against third party apps posting into groups with fewer than 20K members. This only applies to group posts; Facebook Page posts are unaffected!

This Article Covers:

Posting to Facebook Directly from CommentSold

The first method of posting products for sale to Facebook is to post directly from within CommentSold.

Note: This method is not typically recommended, as it only allows for posting a single image and does not allow posting videos. In addition, Facebook may limit reach for posts from third-party platforms such as CommentSold.

If you would like to use the direct posting option, follow these steps:

  1. Visit the Products tab in your CommentSold admin dashboard.
  2. Click the three dots to the right of the product you would like to post for sale, the click "Post to Facebook."

  3. Select the destination for your post—your Facebook Page or Group. Any Facebook assets you have connected to CommentSold will appear as options in the dropdown.
  4. Enter the Post Message you would like displayed to your customers on Facebook. You can copy and paste the suggested message or enter your own.

  5. Set if you would like to post immediately or schedule the post for a later time.

  6. If you would like to instantly add a first comment to your Facebook post—to share information or links—enter this as the Post Comment.
  7. If you would like the product published to your app at the same time as it is posted to Facebook for sale, enter the App Notification Title and App Notification Body. Checking "Send the notification?" will send customers with the app downloaded to their mobile device a push notification announcing the new item (if they have push settings enabled). If you do not want the product to appear in your app's main feed, check "Hide from your app's main feed?" The product will still appear in associated collections or when searched.
  8. If you do not want the product to post to your app, check "Facebook only post (hidden in app)?"
  9. Click the green button to Submit to Facebook and your post will be published or scheduled!

Manually Linking Posts to CommentSold

Manual linking allows you to post your items for sale on Facebook and then connect those posts to the products in CommentSold. We recommend scheduling your posts in advance and manually linking them to CommentSold if you are uploading videos to your posts.

If you would like to use the manual linking option, follow these steps:

Note: If you do not have the product photos you would like to use readily available on your computer, visit the Products tab in your CommentSold admin dashboard and click on the three dots next to the item you would like to post for sale. Click “Download Image.” The main product image will open and can be saved for use in your Facebook post. If there is another product image you would like to download, select “Edit Images” and click on the desired photo to set it as the main image. You can now “Download Image” again to save the second image. This process can be repeated for as many photos as you would like to download to use in your Facebook post. Of course, if you have the photos already saved to your computer, you can upload them directly to Facebook and skip this step!

  1. Open your Facebook page or group and create a new post.
  2. If you entered a description when adding your product and you would like to use this description for your Facebook post, click the three dots next to the product and select “Copy Text.” Then click the blue “Copy Text” button on the popup. The product description is now copied to your clipboard and can be pasted into your Facebook post! You can choose to rewrite or create a totally new post if you do not want to use the product description.
  3. Once you have the description and image(s) or video you want to share drafted in Facebook, publish or schedule the post.
  4. After the post is published, return to the Products tab of your CommentSold dashboard. Click the three dots next to the item you posted and select “Link to Post.”
  5. You will see the posts that have been published to your connected Facebook Page and Groups. You will need to check the boxes for “Post to App?” if you would like the product published for sale to your mobile app and “Send the notification?” if you would like your customers to be notified that the product is live.
  6. Click “Link” next to the Facebook post you just made to connect the post to the product. If successful, you will be returned to your Products tab and will see a blue banner confirming that the post has been linked.

Autolinking Posts to CommentSold

Autolinking connects product posts you have made on Facebook to the products within CommentSold, without requiring any action from you.

If you would like to use the autolinking option, follow these steps:

  1. Ensure that "Autolink to post" is enabled from within the Facebook Setup tab of your CommentSold dashboard.
  2. Open your Facebook page or group and create a new post.
  3. You must include #SKU (with the appropriate product SKU) for the autolinking to be successful.
  4. Once you have the description and image(s) or video you want to share drafted in Facebook, publish or schedule the post.
  5. After the post is published to Facebook, visit the Posts tab in your CommentSold dashboard and confirm that you see it listed there!

Using the CommentSold Auto Scheduler

If you would like to automate more of the sales post to your Facebook group, you can do so with CommentSold's Auto Scheduler feature. To enable, visit the Setup tab in your CommentSold dashboard and click "Auto Scheduler."

First, you'll click the green button to "Enable Auto Scheduler."

Next, you'll set the minimum quantity that an item must have in stock and the minimum number of days since the post was last shared. CommentSold will use the settings you enter here to search your previous sales posts and identify potential reposts.

You'll then set the times at which you would like automated reposts to be shared to your Facebook group. If you would like multiple posts to be reshared on days when multiple posts qualify (according to the minimum quantity and minimum days set above), you will enter multiple times here.

Lastly, you'll need to enable reposts in each Facebook group that you would like this feature used in. If you enable reposts for multiple groups, sales posts will only be reshared to the same group they were originally posted in.

Once all of these steps are completed, CommentSold will check your previous posts every night at midnight for qualifying products. Posts that meet the minimum quantity and minimum days requirements that you set will be scheduled!

Turning Off Facebook Sale Format

Occasionally, a product post to Facebook may be automatically formatted as a sale post, which looks similar to a Marketplace listing. Using dollar signs and decimals increases the likelihood that Facebook will tag your post as a sale post.

Sale posts may be limited in reach, and can prevent CommentSold from linking products to the posts and reading comments from them.

Note: If you schedule your posts through Facebook, you can identify posts with sale format and turn it off before they are even published!

If this does happen to one of your posts, it's easy to turn off sale format.

Make sure you are interacting with the post as the profile or page that posted it. If you made the post from your personal Facebook profile, you will need to be interacting with it as yourself. If you made the post as your page, you will need to be interacting with it as your page.
