Live Selling through CommentSold

Live sales are a great way to engage your customers and sell in an interactive, informative way.

In this article, we will walk you through how to use CommentSold’s live streaming tools to sell live across your Facebook page, Facebook groups, and mobile app.

This Article Covers:

Equipment & Technical Requirements

It's likely you already have what you'll need to host your first live sale. Before you schedule that first sale, be sure you have:

  • A computer to manage the Live Overview, the "control panel" for your live sale
  • A mobile device with the CommentSold Broadcast app installed
  • A strong Internet connection, with a minimum upload speed of 10 Mbps, on the mobile device you will be filming with

You will also want to be sure you have connected the Facebook page and/or group(s) you will be selling in.

If you are would like to be able to scan item barcodes to pull up the products you would like to sell live, you will also need a barcode scanner. This is not required! If you do purchase a scanner, we recommend either the Zebra DS9208 Series Scanner with USB Cable or the BCST-70 Bluetooth Wireless Barcode Scanner. You may also use any 1D scanner that is a keyboard emulator.

The CommentSold Broadcast App

Before you can begin selling live, you will need to download the CommentSold Broadcast app on the mobile device you will use to film your live sale. This app is available on both Android and iOS.

When you open the app, you will be prompted to log in to your CommentSold account.

Once logged in, you will see the image from your mobile device camera displayed along with a red button. Tap this button when you are ready to set up your live sale. You will not be streaming to your channels until you go live from your CommentSold dashboard (on a separate device)!

Once you have the app downloaded to your mobile device, you're ready to move on to the next sections on going live!

Going Live with Manual Product Selection

The first method for going live with CommentSold is to use manual product selection. With this method, you will need to create a Product Selection prior to going live. The Product Selection will be the list of items you will be featuring in your live sale.

Setting Up Your Live Sale

Once you have your product selection created (and in the order you would like to feature your products when live), visit the Live tab of your CommentSold dashboard. Click on "Live Overview."

On this screen, you will see the steps you will need to take to go live.

Below these steps, there are a few settings you will want to review before your first live sale. Enable or disable these as desired before moving on to Steps 1, 2, and 3!

For Step 1, you will need to open the CommentSold Broadcast app on your mobile device and click the red button to begin capturing video. Click "Refresh Stream" in Step 1 of the Live Overview to see the feed from your CommentSold Broadcast app.

Note: High resolution video streams can take up to 3 minutes to load. Please be patient if you do not immediately see the video feed in your Live Overview!

Once your stream is connected, make sure that the audio and video look and sound how you want them to for your live sale. If your video is blurry, choppy, or inaudible, it is likely that your internet connection is not stable. Contact chat support if you need any help at this stage—they will be able to see your preview and help you identify the problem!

In Step 2, you will click "Choose Product Selection." Select the Product Selection you created for your live sale and click "Next." You will see the list of products in Step 2, along with the product details for the first item in your Product Selection. You can click to other products in your Product Selection to view details for each.

Note: Once you have chosen a Product Selection, you will see the video feed in Step 1 update to include the Live Overlay. We recommend that you click the "Clear Overlay" button at the top of the Live Overview before going live. This will ensure that shoppers don't try to claim items shown on the overlay before you are ready! The overlay will appear again if you click on another item in your Product Selection, so be sure to clear it just before you go live!

In Step 3, click "Choose Where to Go Live." You will select the channels you would like your live sale streamed to here.

Next, enter a Post Title and Post Description for your live sale. These will appear as the title and caption of your live sale on Facebook, so be sure to enter what you'd like for your customers to see!

Are you streaming your live sale to your mobile app? Check the box to send a push notification to those who have your app downloaded and notifications enabled. Enter the App Notification Title and App Notification Description for the push notification.

Note: While there is an option to send a Messenger blast to announce your live sale, we do not recommend this due to the risk of having your Facebook account suspended.

When you have completed all three steps, you are ready to begin your live sale! Click "Go Live" to begin streaming across the selected channels.

Managing Your Live Sale

While live, the Live Overview will guide you through interacting and selling with real-time insights and simple controls. While your mobile device is capturing the video, you or your live sale assistant will be monitoring the Live Overview on your computer.

Click any product from the “Products” section to display it on the Overlay banner. The product that’s currently displayed will show a “current” label in your Live Overview.

If you need to make any last minute edits to a product, click the product’s name in the Product Selection. This link will open a new window for you to make changes.

When live, the Live Overview screen will update to show the “Real-Time Comments” box. In it, you’ll see incoming comments and be able to post a message to all of your viewers.

On each comment, you'll see a status that notes whether or not the comment is a "sold" comment. You'll also see a label displaying what channel the comment came through.

To share a message to your viewers across all channels where you are streaming, use the text box at the bottom of this screen!

When you are done selling, click "End Live Sale" at the top of your screen. This will end your stream for all channels.

Shortly after your live sale, you will be able to view in-depth reporting in the Live History section of the Live tab in your CommentSold dashboard.

Going Live with Dynamic Product Selection

In the previous section, we discussed how to go live with a pre-created Product Selection. Dynamic product selection allows you to create Product Selections on the fly by entering or scanning items during your live sale. This method gives you the flexibility to add items before or during the sale, and to adapt the products you feature to the response you're getting from your viewers!

Note: Currently, barcode scanning for live sales is only available with CommentSold barcodes. If you are not using CommentSold barcodes and want to use dynamic product selection, you can still search and add items in the Live Overview.
