Adding a Custom Domain

You can connect a custom domain for your webstore from within your CommentSold dashboard.

Connecting a custom domain to CommentSold will allow you to direct shoppers to yourwebsite.com rather than to a .commentsold.com web address. In addition, a custom domain is required for those advertising on Facebook and Instagram to optimize the Facebook Events Manager. Watch the video below or read on to learn more!

Connecting your Custom Domain to CommentSold

If you do not already own a domain you would like to connect to CommentSold, you will first need to purchase one.

Note: In this article, we cover the process for connecting a domain from GoDaddy. If your domain was purchased through another provider, the steps for connecting to CommentSold will be very similar.

  1. Search for your desired domain name on GoDaddy. If available, you will be presented with the option to purchase. If unavailable, GoDaddy will suggest similar domain names that you may select instead.
  2. Once you have purchased the domain with GoDaddy, you will need to enter it under Custom Domain in the Setup tab of your CommentSold admin dashboard. Enter the domain without the "www." at the beginning (in the example below, you would enter mycuteboutique.com).

  3. CommentSold will generate A and CNAME records that must be added within GoDaddy. In a separate tab, log in to your GoDaddy account and visit DNS Management

  4. Search for the domain you purchased. You will see all of the DNS records for this domain. You will need to remove any existing A records in order to successfully connect your domain. Click the edit icon next to any existing A records and then click on the trash can icon that appears.

  5. To the bottom right of this list, you will see a link to "ADD" a record. Add the A records produced by CommentSold one at a time. Type will be "A." Host should be set to "@" and Points to will be the value provided by CommentSold. The TTL default is 1 hour, and we recommend you leave this at 1 hour.

  6. Once all the A name records have been added, click the edit icon next to the CNAME record with the name "www." You will update the Points to value to the CNAME value provided by CommentSold.
  7. When all records have been added, return to the Custom Domain tab in CommentSold and click "Verify." CommentSold will begin to verify the connection. This can take several minutes. After this time has passed, you will need to click "Verify" again.
  8. When verified, CommentSold will begin issuing the certificate. This process usually takes 5-10 minutes. After this time has passed, click "Complete."

Your custom domain is now verified and ready for use with CommentSold! Shoppers who visit this domain address will be directed to the same destination as to where your shop URL would take them (either to your webstore or to their account page, depending on your shop settings).

Verifying Your Custom Domain with Facebook

Facebook offers multiple options for verifying your domain. We recommend you follow the steps to add a DNS record, which will be similar to those listed above for connecting your custom domain to CommentSold.

Note: In this article, we cover the process for connecting a domain from GoDaddy. If your domain was purchased through another provider, the steps for connecting to CommentSold will be very similar.

  1. First, you will need to connect your domain to the Facebook Business Manager. Log into Business Manager and click on the "Business Settings" button on the top right.
  2. Within Business Settings, go to Brand Safety → Domains. Click the button to add a domain.

  3. Enter your shop's domain. You can enter this with or without the "www." at the beginning. Occasionally when you click to "Add Domain," Facebook will refresh this page without showing your added domain and verification options. This is a glitch within Facebook Business Manager. If this happens, check back on this page later and you should see your added domain.
  4. Select "Meta Tag Verification" for the method of verification. Facebook will provide a verification code.

  5. Copy this code and paste it into the Verification Code box in the Custom Domain tab of your CommentSold dashboard. You can enter the entire meta tag produced OR the value in between quotation marks in the content section of the tag, and either will work!
  6. Return to the Facebook Domains page and click "Verify."
  7. To connect your domain to your Facebook Page, visit Brand Safety → Domains. Click to "Assign Page" to the domain and select your business page.
